The effects of the plant growth regulator hydrogen cyanamide on the dormancy breaking of freesia (Freesia x Hybrida Bailey) corm were examined. One half percent of hydrogen cyanamide (or 1% of Dormex) was effective to break corm dormancy and accelerate their growth. Higher concentration of hydrogen cyanamide induced more lateral bud emergence. After two month storage at room temperature 22-27°C, most of the corms were sensitive to higher concentration. Two and hlaf percent of hydrogen cyanamide was sublethal to large 'Red Flower' corm. The optimum concentration of hydrogen cyanamide to break dormancy of freesia corm was variable depending on the duration of storage, corm size and variety. |
