Alar treatments at concentrations of 500-5000 ppm resulted in retardance of shoot growth in ”Kyoho” grapevine The abscisic acid content in the young shoot tips increased immediately after dipping them in 500 ppm Alar solution for 10 seconds and then decreased gradually. During the growing season, Alar treatment inhibited the burst of latent buds effectively. Soon after the leaves had fallen. and the shoots exposed to a certain amount of low temperature the bud burst would be no more inhibited by the Alar treatment. Using Alar as a retardant to reduce the excess growth of vines grown in the subtropical region the concentration of Alar has to be lowered, so that the latent buds can resume their growth and bear fruits for second harvest in the year. |
