In order to meet the requirement of the foreign markets, the quality and size of the ponkan (Citrue reticulata Blanco) fruit harvested in the central part of Taiwan were measured by this investigation through three sampling areas and seven picking maturities. Result shows that better quality and shelf-life from the samples picked at the time on the middle November as after stored at room temperature for two weeks would be obtained as indicated by this report, Due to the dry season and the short of irrigation system, ponkan fruit growing in this district especially at Sian-kaung country of Taichung Prefecture was less juice content as compared with other producing areas. From Duncan's multiple range test. it shows that interior quality and the fruit size were significant difference between those three sampling areas and each picking maturities The average data of the quality are revealed in poor taste from its low ratio of soluble solids to acidity of the juice with 10.6:0.62 or 17.5:1, and more seeds and some semidried segments were presented in those fruits growing in such central part of Taiwan. In order to improve those quality factors, mush research work such as selection of better strains, set up more irrigation systems and better orchard managments etc. must be urgently established. |
