In order to eliminate the seed-borne disease, seven kinds of imported vegetable seeds (cabbage, pakchoi, chinese cabbage, semi-heading chinese cabbage, spinach, carrot and lettuce) were treated by hot-water at 40, 50, 60 and 65°C for 10, 20, 30 and 40 minutes respectively. The seed-borne fungi and seed germination test were examined by using blotter method. In these experiments, the hot-water treatment reduced the percentage of fungi-contaminated seeds However, hot-water treatment was unable to control the seed-borne diseases completely. Not only the germination of all tested seeds were inhibited at 65℃, but the germination rate and the coefficient of velocity were also seriously reduced at 60℃, The treatment at 50℃ for 10 mm. had no detrimental effect on The seed germination, but long-time treatments could reduce the germination rate and the coefficient of velocity. None of the treatment at 40℃ for 40 mm. had detrimental effect on the seed germination except lettuce. |
