Growth and coverage of four warm turfgrasses: centipedegrass, carpetgrass, St. Augustinegrass and bermudagrass were studied under 50%, 25% light intensity and full light conditions. Full light was good for the growth of centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass and bermudagrass. 50% and 25% light intensities was good for the growth of carpetgrass, however reduced growth in centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass and bermudagrass. The greatest reduction of growth was bermudagrass under shade conditions. Therefore, the shade tolerance of the four turfgrasses in order of decreasing tolerance are: carpetgrass, St. Auguatinegrass centipedegrass and bermudagrass. It was the heat choice of using bermudagrass in full light landscape area, which could be made the fastest coverage and got the boot quality turf. On contrary, it would be got the most beautiful landscape to select carpetgrass to plant around the building's northern spaces or under trees. |
