Mushroom were treated with 14CO2 to try to realize carbon dioxide fixation in detached fruitbody and intact fruitbody. The detached fruitbodies at different growth stages was found to be capable of fixing carbon dioxide in the light or in the dark. The gill of stage 3 showed a higher radioactivity than other test materials. The majority of the early products of fixed carbon dioxide were determined to be amino acids and organic acids at all stage and all parts of the fruitbody. The percentage of radioactivity in amino acids increased, on the other hand the percentage of radioactivity in organic acids decreased when the time of treatment was extended from 1 minute to 30 minutes. There was no difference in the ability of carbon dioxide fixation between detached and intact fruitbody, and the majority of early products in the intact fruitbody were amino acids and, organic acids too. Aspartic said was the major form of 14CO2 labelled amino acid. While the intact fruitbodies continuously grew for a period after treatment, the distribution percentages of radioactivity in amino acids and organic acids decreased but increased in sugars, starch and lipids. |
