A continuing progress of fruit cultivar improvement bases on generation after generation selection for superior genotypes. Mass selection is conducted by breeders to breed progenies cyclically. The amount of genetic gain per selection cycle and the time required to complete a selection cycle are affected by a number of factors which include inheritable characters of fruit tree, physiology, morphology and climate. The purpose of this review deals with the inheritable relationship among these affecting factors in order to increase selection efficiency and decrease breeding cost. |
