The quality of potted miniature rose, cvs. Royal Sunblaze and Red Sunblaze propagated by single-node cuttings, budded-cuttings, and microcuttings was compared. One budded cutting, one microcutting, one or three single-node cuttings of 'Royal Sunblaze' per pot achieved the standard ratio of pot plant height to diameter (1.5) of canopy shading area (CSA), 16 weeks after cutting. Budded cuttings of potted 'Royal Sunblaze' were taller than those from microcuttings. Furthermore, budded cuttings developed more basal shoots, flowers and canopy shading area than microcuttings and single-node cuttings. Twenty four weeks after cutting, one microcutting and one single-node cutting of 'Red Sunblaze' per pot developed into a commercial standard pot rose. In contrast, budded cuttings never developed into a commercial pot rose, because they were too tall. The canopy shading area of budded 'Red Sunblaze' budded-cutting was not significantly different from those of single-node cuttings or microcuttings. |
