Modified inverse pyramid and rounded pyramid ping cell could reduce the pun root of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Haswlien-Yasu No.5) seedling, Inverse pyramid cell with a series of narrow vertical openings in the sidewall (T-A-4) would cause the root tips of seedling to grow along the opening sites and reach the edge of the cell sidewall. Part of rout lips dried up by air prunning and stimulated branch root. Growing in dc-bottom cell (T-O), would stop rout lips' growth as soon as the root grew to reach the cell bottom. Effect of root pruning not only to improve rout growth without pan root formation, but also stimulate brunch root growth. In cell sidewall, treated with a series of narrow vertical openings of the round pyramid cell plug, (R-A-3) could avoid the root circles. The U form bottom (R-U) also reduced the possibility of root circling at the cell bottom. The root lips number of 4-week-old tomato seedlings grown in inverse pyramid cell with T-A-4 treatment and dc-bottom increased 218% and 210% than control, respectively. The round pyramid cell with R-A-3 treatment increased 157%. Owing to root pruning and root induction at the seedling stage, root lip number of tomato seedlings at 10 days after transplanting were highest in dc-bottom cell, the followed by T-A-4 treatment and the lowest in control for the inverse pyramid cell tray. The seedling growth of the R-A-3 cell after transplanting was higher in number of root lips than control in the round pyramid cell tray. The flowering of tomato with modified plug was 2 to 7 days earlier us welt as curly yield. |
