Effects of temperature on the growth of Jewel orchid (Haemaria discolor var. dowsoniana) was obvious. Growth stunting wm found under 15/13℃, and the growth rate was very slow at 20/15℃. While 25/20℃ promoted its reproductive growth, and 30/25℃ promoted vegetative growth. The average leaves were from 9 to 10 when grown in the phytotron at 30/25℃ condition for 8 month, while those at 15/13℃were only 3-4 leaves per plant. Effect of the cultural media on the growth of Jewel orchid was conducted. The growth of Jewel orchid showed no significant difference in media treatment which were, 1). vermiculite: perlite: tree fern =1:1:1 (V/V/V), 2). vermiculite: perlite: peat moss =1:1:1(V/V/V), 3). King gardening (no.3) and 4). sphagnum moss : tree fern=1:1(V/V). In autumn 10 winter, the plant growth was slower than those from spring to summer. |
