Water spinach was harvested repeatedly at different heights for six times. Plants harvested at heights of first-node of second-node above ground level had more lateral shoot numbers and higher fresh weight than plants harvested just above ground level. In addition, shorter harvesting intervals as above treatment showed more significant effect on yields. However, after consequent harvests, plants harvested at second-node from basal part had thinnest lateral shoots among all treatment, and had no significant difference on fresh weight. On the basis of harvesting at near ground level resulted in higher mortality ratio and harvesting at second-node resulted in unacceptable thin shoots, harvesting at first-node above ground level provided marketable yield and quality of lateral shoots of water spinach. The sprout shoots harvested at height of first-node or second-node above ground level had longer internodes and had more elliptical leaves. Both characters were belonged to mature morphology. |
