Artificial lighting allows the grower virtually independent of sunlight and so permits year-round crop raising in those parts of the world where this would otherwise be impossible. Noteable applications include the controlled production of seedlings and cuttings, and the forcing and delaying of flowering plants and shrubs. Artificial lighting will play a ever-increasing important role in future developments. Basic information of 1 8 locally commercially available fluorescent lamps were established in this study. The quantum, radiometric, photometric amount of light and the spectral distribution of light provided by a selected fluorescent lamp under a given mounting height were measured and related equations were developed. The purposes of developing these equations are twofolds. First, to provide a mean, without instruments, to quantify the amount of light provided by given lamps. Second, to prepare for the computerization of various fluorescent lamps' data aiming at the development of a computer software which is capable of predicting the light environemnt provided by selected types and assigned arrangement of lamps. The equations developed to predict the amount of light level and spectral distribution have the accuracy higher than 98.5 % and 90% , respectively. |
