This article explores socio-cultural insights of the soundscapes between the two cities in a cross-cultural comparison fashion. Three dimensions will be applied in this paper: 1) ecological triangle-people, space and activities; 2) soundscape triangle-soundmark, signal and keynote sound; and 3) time arrow in a historical perspective. Through literature review, on-site visits and recordings, as well as in-depth interviews, this research is an attempt to develop and upgrade the ability of ”tale-telling” for soundscapes between the two cities. In so doing, urban soundscapes could be linked to cultural themes and social roots. In addition, unique soundscapes of the two cities will be elaborated in order to stand out their particular images and expressions of the city. |
