“Karakagami” by Fujiwara Shigenori is the first Chinese general history written in Japanese. The content of ”Karakagami” is mostly originated from Chinese authorized history. Yet, since some of the sources of “Karakagami” were left unspecified, there are still some vague points need to be discussed. In view of this point, I would go a step further to discuss the record of Buddhism mentioned in the book. The content about Buddhism is mostly derived from “Karakagami” by Falin, the Sangha in Tang Dynasty, which is the statement to protest against Taoist when the two religions were opposing each other at the beginning of Tang Dynasty. This research aims at the viewpoint of Fujiwara Shigenori toward “Pienchenglun” and how he inspired by it. Thereupon, I shall discuss about Buddhism history in “Karakagami”. |
