Historical study emphasizes interviewing experienced elders to explore historical events. Interviewing knowledgeable persons is commonly adopted in related studies. The candidates to be interviewed should be the one who reflects the common life of most people in the studied time period. Additionally, Japan and Taiwan was closely related for 51 years in the Japan-Colonizing Period. Based on the above three aspects, this study profiled the life of Nakayama Jiro, who came to Taiwan in the Japan-Colonizing Period. We interviewed Nakayama Tsuneyoshi, the oldest son of Nakayama Jiro, and reviewed the available literature to collect data. With the present profile as demonstration example, we can have more in-depth understanding to the people living since the Japan Meiji Era and to the status of Taiwan to Japan in that particular time period. |
