A comprehensive methodology for the seismic risk analysis of electric power networks is proposed in this study. This methodology is based on the application of Monte Carlo simulation to the interested power network, of which the damage state of its vulnerable components can be simulated according to the imposed seismic conditions and appropriate fragility curves for these components. A procedure for generating hazard-consistent scenario earthquakes, which as a whole could well reflect the seismicity of a region where the network locates, has been intro-duced for risk analysis. With the vulnerability of transformers of higher grades taken into account, the case study of the power system in Taiwan has been carried out preliminarily for demonstration of the proposed methodology. |
