The Fiber Bragg Grating(FBG) sensors and the strain gages were attached on the stainless plate with different thicknesses to measure the dynamic shear strain of soil in the shaking table tests. The sinusoidal waves with various frequencies and amplitudes and the scale-down acceleration record from Chi-Chi earthquake were adopted as input motions. The soil strain measured by the proposed devices and the soil responses measured by other transducers give the opportunity to investigate the soil behavior under strong and weak excitations. The measuring device with proper stiffness relative to the soil stiffness could disclose the deformation behavior of soil. Amplification effect was found in the soil responses from the bottom to the top of the ground. The excess pore water pressure was quickly accumulated under the excitation with high frequencies and caused the soil liquefied in the upper part of soil.
