To enhance the progress of self-reliant satellite propulsion development, NSPO is conducting a joint projectwith the Aerospace Science and Technology Research Center(ASTRC) of National Cheng Kung University(NCKU) . In 2012, the development of thruster and propellant tank prototypes were completed. For thrusters, themeasurements under ambient conditions indicated a thrust of 0.6-0.7 Newton and the specific impulse(Isp) of119 seconds would be achieved, which implies that the Isp in space would be 174 seconds. The thrusters will bestarted up within 0.1 seconds by applying catalyst bed heaters, and would be a major improvement over coldstartoperations. For the development of the propellant tank, three models have been built for various purposes.The 150 ml and 500 ml models were assembled for functional demonstration and mass reduction purposes.The preliminary test results show that the 2000 ml tank prototype model may function properly and satisfy thedevelopment goals. The construction of the Satellite Propulsion Laboratory in ASTRC has been finished and isdue to provide two test cells for hot-firing experiments in 2013. |
