福爾摩沙衛星三號（以下簡稱福衛三號）是台美雙邊國際合作計畫，由太空中心與美國大學大氣研究聯盟（UCAR）共同合作執行。福衛三號於2006年發射，建構起一個由6顆衛星所組成的全球大氣即時觀測網。位於中央氣象局的福衛三號「台灣資料分析中心」，與美國資料分析與儲存中心（CDAAC）合作，在台灣同步進行科學資料24小時即時接收、處理、儲存、分送等作業，產製大氣與電離層相關垂直分布反演資料，進行氣象作業與各項科學研發應用。 The FORMOSAT-3 Program is a Taiwan-U.S. collaboration mission between NSPO and the UniversityCorporation for Atmospheric Research(UCAR) of the United States. The FORMOSAT-3 cluster satellites weresuccessfully launched in April, 2006. The FORMOSAT-3 6-satellite constellation was deployed to form a globalearth observation network and to provide near-real time radio occultation weather data. The Taiwan AnalysisCenter for COSMIC(TACC) co-located with the Central Weather Bureau in Taipei and the COSMIC Data Analysisand Archive Center(CDAAC) located in UCAR at Boulder Colorado are the independent centers that process, analyze, distribute, and archive the retrieved near-real time FORMOSAT-3 constellation data from the remotereceiving ground stations. The retrieved atmospheric and ionospheric data in vertical profiles are widely used foroperational weather forecasting, research, and related applications. TACC has completed the synchronizationof the data processing software with CDAAC in 2012 to upgrade the system to provide advanced services tothe user community. As a result of the system upgrade, TACC receives and processes approximately 3GB ofnear-real time FORMOSAT-3 data through CDAAC, and produces 7GB of post-processed data for scientificand research applications. The FORMOSAT-3 global data user community grew to 2, 021 registered users in 67nations in 2012. The monthly accumulated FORMOSAT-3 data volume is approximately 1100 GB and the totalaccumulated archived data volume, from April 2006 to October 2012, is 77 TB.
