The effectiveness of drug courts has been confirmed in many studies. Adult drug courts can reduce drug use relapse, lower criminal recidivism and convey positive economic benefits through evidence-based assessment and treatment, supervision, graduated sanctions and incentives, and various rehabilitation services. Drug courts blend judicial monitoring and sanctions with treatment successfully and effectively. This article provides an overview of the composition of professionals in the drug court, and how they work together. There is also an overview of two publications by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals in the United States; one is defining drug courts: the key Components, and another is Adult Drug Court Best Practices Standards. |
