Tang Rongchuan had published many literatures and articles which apply to both clinical and basic medicine. He was considered as one of the leading member of the converged traditional and western medicine. The purpose of this study is to examine the academic background and principle thoughts in the book “Yi Jing Jing Yi” written by Tang and summarize the content using the structure of modern medicine. In the book “Yi Jing Jing Yi”, Tang described connective tissue in the chest or abdomen cavity, circulation system and central nervous system as topics. However, due to uncompleted references and citations of the western medicine knowledge, the outcome of the converged medicine was inconclusive. The book introduced basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine as the core of the study, applied the well-known western medicine knowledge, and reorganized the basic theories back to traditional Chinese medicine. This study affected many doctors afterwards for its materialization of the pathogenesis from visceral manifestations such as channel, meridian, and qi in traditional Chinese medicine. The result suggested that “Yi Jing Jing Yi” had become an important preliminary reference to modernize the basic research of traditional Chinese medicine. Our future study will focus on the theories of other converged medicine publications to accommodate the strength of western medicine into traditional Chinese medical system and thus hoping to bring a new direction to basic researches of traditional Chinese medicine. |
