Inter-city bus service has become one of the most important transportation modes in Taiwan, especially when it comes to medium and long way travels. Meanwhile, inter-city bus could cause more casualties when traffic accidents occur, owing to its relatively large capacity. Statistics indicates that 90% traffic accidents could be attributed to driving behaviors related to human factors. Drivers' driving behaviors are also adopted in inter-city carrier assessment program lately, which confirms the importance of bus drivers in terms of highway safety. Driver's driving performance could be determined by their personalities and would have significant impacts on the safety of inter-city transportation. Consequently, it is essential to construct risk level models based on drivers' aberrant driving behaviors. This study acquire tachograph recorded driving data and personality information from an inter-city bus operator, and constructs risk level classification mechanism on the basis of aberrant driving behaviors to assess drivers' driving risk. Moreover, binary logit regression and ordered logit regression models are employed to examine the relationships between personalities and driving risk levels. Analytical results of this study could be further elaborated for bus carriers to execute driver management and to serve as indices for appraising new employees when recruiting. |
