送刑路上：監所矯正人員述說戒護槍決之經驗

Reactions to Executions among Taiwanese Correctional Officers

矯正人員目睹槍決、因應罪犯行刑之經驗，猶如生死教育之境教一般，彷彿也歷經一場生命教育。然現有的職前或在職訓練中缺乏相關課程，無法得知矯正人員處理該經驗之能力與資源是否充足，更不知此歷程對其影響。此研究期望能深入瞭解矯正人員戒護死刑犯槍決之心理歷程及其因應，以探討：（1）矯正人員參與死刑執行的心理經驗？（2）戒護槍決歷程對矯正人員個人之意義？採用海德格所提出的詮釋現象學做為研究設計，以立意選樣方式邀請五位監所矯正人員進行二次深度訪談。經由主題分析法分析口述資料，顯示五位矯正人員歷經接收死刑執行通知、參與槍決，呈現「獨特經驗增專業」、「畢生難忘送刑路」、「多元因應釋重擔」三大主題。也發現，與死刑犯長期相處的歷程，矯正人員體悟「工作無個人價值」、「互動增生命真義」、「珍貴生命價無限」。依據研究結果，建議對於新進矯正人員面對死刑執行之準備與因應，特別是首次面對死刑執行與失落經驗的處理，宜提供職前和在職實務訓練，加強其認知因應能力及壓力預防技巧。未來研究方面，也值得深入探討傳統文化習俗、矯正人員個人特質與因應資源，在戒護死刑犯的工作歷程之影響。 In Taiwan, little is known about the ways that correctional officers cope with the impact of an execution in jails, and little is known about their needs for support. Hence, the purpose of the current study was to explore reactions to executions from the perspective of Taiwanese correctional officers. A hermeneutic-phenomenological approach was adopted to collect in-depth interview data from five Taiwanese correctional officers who are currently working work with death row inmates. The first significant category to emerge was characterized as “managing the impact of an execution,” and it included three themes: professional dignity, unforgettable experiences, and multiple coping strategies. Another category was characterized as “learning from work with death row inmates,” and it included three themes: job duty, inspiration of mutual learning, and valuing life. The paper concludes by discussing implications and makes recommendations for helping correctional officers deal with the impact of executions.
