Students of the department of Japanese language, after graduation, even though not becoming professional translators, once employed by enterprises related to Japanese business, usually will be expected to be able to translate a variety of commercial documents, including emails, product specifications, manuals and even contracts. This paper aims to introduce the teaching method of the translation of Japanese contracts into Chinese. First, before having students practice, I suggest explaining what a contract is, and teaching the preliminary knowledge of contract translation; for example, how to consult dictionaries for specialized and legal terminology; how to distinguish correctly rights and obligations; how to unify a translation for the same vocabulary; and how to write using literary expressions, etc. Then on the basis of the students’ actual translations, find their inappropriate renderings and errors, and proceed with an analysis to locate the kinds of errors students easily make and next pinpoint the best teaching methods to use for instruction. |
