Literature and calligraphy are two different art forms. Therefore, there can be no similarities between these two forms. However, under the influence of the same culture, some similarities may be found in the changes in their respective expressions. This paper begins with the discussion of the Classical Chinese Literature Movement in the Tang Dynasty, followed by the exploration of the respective development and the distinct orthodoxies of essays and calligraphy in the past and at the present to see if both are on the same track. This paper contains four parts. The preface briefly explains the discussibility of literature and calligraphy. The second part describes the past and the present development of these two forms. The third part analyzes the respective dogmas of essays and calligraphy. The fourth part, the conclusion, sums up the similarities and the differences between these two forms. |
