Mr. Zhang Taiyan influenced the medical ideas and debates between the modern integration of Chinese and Western Medicine. He devoted his life to the theoretical improvement of Chinese medicine, while resisting the five phase theory to the utmost. At the same time affirming the curative effectiveness of Chinese medicine, he went on to publish many papers on the integration of Chinese and Western medicine. This article analyzes the original ideas and changes through Dr. Zhang’s academic carrier. According to his autobiography, he did not believe the traditional theories of the viscera, bowels, channels and network vessels but, developed a system according to western anatomical knowledge combined with Ke-qin’s six channel theory which essentially was very much the same as the traditional system that encompasses viscera, bowels, channels, network vessels, exiting, entering, passage and transformation. |
