GEPT, a national English standard test in Taiwan, has drawn thousands of test-takers every year. According to the statistics by LTTC (The Language Training & Testing Center) from 2001 to 2004, most high-school students passed the Elementary Level while only around 30% of mostly university students succeeded in the Intermediate Level. The aim of this research is to examine if a long distance existing between the two levels. This study had 30 to serve as the subjects, whose GEPT, TOEIC scores and academic records were compared and analyzed. The result indicated that most subjects had more difficulties in English writing and speaking, and the gap between the two levels was significantly big and is worth further study. It is suggested that another level could be added in for reaching a more delicate and reliable test result. |
