The bus information provided at bus stops and printed within informationbrochures are very basic but important means to provide passengers withnecessary information. Numerous studies have shown that many elderlypassengers encounter transportation information barriers. For example,the font sizes of information at bus stops and within information brochuresare too small. In addition, elderly citizens have difficulty understanding thecontent of the information provided. Lastly, senior citizens do not know howto inquiry about transportation information from brochures. Aquestionnaire was conducted to understand the minimum font sizes that theelderly need to see information at bus stops and in transportationinformation brochures clearly. Sigang Township in Tainan County has beenchosen as the study area. This study designed different schemes for busroute maps and schedules, as well as an activity-based bus informationbrochure. They were tested and evaluated to determine whether or not theelderly could see, find, and understand bus information content illustratedat bus stops and printed within brochures. A field evaluation test wasconducted with 36 elderly subjects. The evaluation results show that eventhough the education levels of many of the elderly subjects were not high,they correctly found all the information they were asked to indentify at thetest bus stops. In addition, the subjects correctly found most of theinformation they were asked to indentify within bus information brochures. |
