In this research, based on the MRT plant perspective we develop two mixeddeterministic and stochastic demand manpower supply planning models forMRT plant long-term operations. These models are formulated as mixed integerprograms that are characterized as NP-hard. We employ problem decompositiontechniques, coupled with a CPLEX mathematical programming solver, to developheuristics that can efficiently solve the problems. To evaluate the modelsand the method used in current practice in actual operations, we develop asimulation-based evaluation method as well. Finally, we perform a case studyusing real operating data from a Taiwan MRT maintenance plant. The preliminaryresults are good, showing that the models could be useful for planning carriagemaintenance manpower supply. |
