This paper discusses the potential of applying western somatic approaches to the teaching of traditionalEastern Do-Ing exercises (Shao Lin Da-Mo Yi Jin Jing). In this paper, the fourteen forms ofthe main Do-Ing exercise, Shao Lin Da-Mo Yi Jin Jing, of Master Lin, the 37th generation master ofChina’s Shaolin Temple, are proposed to show how certain somatic approaches may be introduced toenhance practical teaching strategies. The possibilities for integrating Western somatic concepts intothe teaching of Eastern movement exercises represent the underlying theme of this paper. |
