Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a systemicallergic reaction to drugs, involving the skinand mucous membranes. SJS is acute and potentiallyfatal. Identifying patients at risk is important.Currently, screening for HLA-B*1502 is recommendedfor Asian patients before startingcarbamazepine (CBZ), which has also been supportedby a cost-effectiveness study [1, 2]. Severalother medications also possibly induce SJS, raisingthe issue whether SJS induced by other medicationsis similarly associated with HLA-B*1502. |
