The damaged orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) can lead to impulsivity, disinhibition, poor empathizing ability, dampening of the experience of emotion, irritable and labile mood, impairment of learning, reversal of stimulus-reinforcement associations, poor judgment, and decision-making in social behavior [1]. Delusions are also developed in individuals with OFC lesions, or in Alzheimer's disease patients with smaller gray matter volume in the right OFC [1]. Yet, the exact rôle of the OFC is still unknown. We present a case of a patient with right OFC injury with psychotic features and subtle cognitive dysfunction. |
