This paper aims to focus on three aspects. The first one is to construct the main plots of the Taiwanese story Snake Husband, and then to discuss the part on Change Shape based on this story with Different Editions included. The last part is to classify each object in the deformable group into the four categories: Eating, Clothing, Housing, and Traffic, in order to analyze traditional Chinese culture, for example, food and festival, beliefs, marriage, and traditional Chinese family. In addition, this paper also focuses on female's status in Chinese traditional family, and how female is expected to behave under the traditional structure of Chinese society. The ending of Snake Husband is usually combined with Field-Snail Woman and Question Answered by Absurd Counterquestion. This is perhaps a metaphor to indicate that women need to be not only wives but also daughters-in-law under Chinese traditional society and that women are forced to fit in the figure of Clever Daughter-in-Law under the patriarchal society. |
