This study aimed to research which has empirically documented the link between motivation for volunteering, proactive coping and well-being is scant. Therefore, this article attempts to explore how motivation for volunteering, proactive coping and well-being are related. This research involved a survey, comprised of three sets of questionnaire items concerning motivation for volunteering, proactive coping and well-being. 150 volunteers, at a large hospital in northern Taiwan, who are older than 55, of participated in this study. The quantitative analysis of the questionnaires was conducted through descriptive statistics and regression analysis. Results of this study showed motivation for volunteering has a positive influence on both proactive coping and well-being, while proactive coping also has a positive influence on well-being. The relationship between motivation for volunteering and well-being is mediated by proactive coping. To conclude, this study may be of importance in explaining the relationship between motivation for volunteering, proactive coping and well-being. This study may also provide hospitals with a better understanding of volunteers’ motivation and proactive coping. Hospitals may be able to enhance volunteers’ well-being by considering their individual characteristics when they are assigned service work. |
