Directed by Akira Kurosawa, Ran is a movie adaption of William Shakespeare’s KingLear. And it is recognized by Kurosawa himself as his best film. In this movie, Kurosawaactually reworks King Lear. As an artistic re-creation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Ranimpresses the reader with its magnificent scenes and rich images. The purpose of this paperis thus to interpret the images in Ran and to see how through adopting animal images as hismeans of characterization, and through making one repeatedly-appearing image, the imageof hunting, to suggest his idea of the human world, Kurosawa makes Ran a distinguishedartistic creation as different from Shakespeare’s original work. |
