To face the trend in the development of financial internationalization, liberalization, and deregulation in Taiwan's financial markets, intense competition forces banks to expand banking businesses. Among them, the e-banking business becomes important. This study investigates the operating performances of 101 branches of B Bank. The data was collected under different input-and output-related variables from M Bank during 2012. Through the application of data envelopment analysis (Data Envelopment Analysis, DEA) and the method of Tobit regression, the study analyzes the resource allocation among branches and possible influential factors on operation performance. The empirical results show that there are six branches under constant return to scale and therefore achieve overall complete efficiency. Meanwhile, the study also finds that most of branches (90 branches) are scale inefficient and under the state of decreasing returns to scale. For these branches, expanding scale of operation may improve performance. Finally, the results of Tobit regression indicate that the number of e-banking accounts and e-banking transferring from both business and consumer units, the amount of deposit, and the time of starting operation are the significant influential variables. |
