To encourage an unmotivated patient with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis to take medications by using motivational interviewing. The patient was assessed using Gordon's 11 functional health patterns. Data were collected in field surveys and in-depth interviews conducted from August 10, 2010 to December 23, 2010. The patient was encouraged and trained to take bitter-tasting medicines. He was monitored for negative sign behavior. Emotion evocation, self-reevaluation, self-liberation, enhanced management, and social liberation nursing intervention strategies were utilized. The patient learned about the side effects of the drugs, which enhanced medication compliance as well as positive attidudes, leading to better adherence and maintenance of treatment. |
