The purpose of this article is to evaluate the resources of Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) from its preparation stage to current status, as well as to compare with those of other developed countries, including the U.S., U.K., and Korea. Our investigation and analysis revealed, a slight increase in human resources and budgets, since the establishment of TFDA. Due to the dramatic increase in the workloads, the TFDA suffers high staff turnover. To make our drug and food safety management more efficientand meet world trends, the government should increase its funding of TFDA to ensure its steady growth and ensure it has the human resources and budgets to face the challenges of emerging issues and increased workloads. Human resources at TFDA are constrained by the government reorganization. In this article we propose a new approach to human resource management and external recruitment of high quality personnel for the TFDA to help the organization broaden its vision and achieve its goals. |
