The Death in Zhou Shou-Juan's Novels

周瘦鵑（1895-1968）風靡民初文壇，擁有「哀情小說鉅子」之稱，以其哀感頑豔特質，成功擄獲讀者芳心。然「哀情小說」猶如雙面刀刃，致使周瘦鵑雖名利雙收，卻也遭受「新文學」陣營的嚴重抨擊。另方面，研究近現代文學論者，多將研究焦點集中於翻譯小說及編輯文學刊物之相關議題，忽略周瘦鵑原創小說之時代精神與文學價值，使其未能在文學史上獲致公允評價。因此，本文擬將視角集中於周瘦鵑原創小說，期望透過深度詮解以析論其創作面向。初步探尋，發現書寫死亡極具文學意義及特色。準此，本文擬分「喟嘆黍離麥秀之橫死」、「堅持自我信念之殉死」、「受制傳統觀念之哀死」三層面，對其「死亡書寫」進行微觀考察，嘗試尋覓周瘦鵑於文學史上合理位置之線索。

Zhou Shou-Juan had been known for literary circles in the early Republic of China, who had been called ＂master of melancholy romance novels.＂ Part of writings reveal characteristic of melancholy romance, which touched reader's heart in the early Republic of China. However, melancholy romance novels made him famous and wealthy, but had been criticized by the ＂New literature.＂ On the other hand, the research of modern Chinese literature, focused on Zhou Shou-Juan's translated novels and the issue about popular literature publication, often ignore the spirit and worth on literature of his original novels, caused he couldn't get fair comment in literary history. Therefore, this study tries focusing on Zhou Shou-Juan's original novels, expect to analyze the aspect of his literary creation by deep interpretation. Preliminary exploration finds that ＂Death Writing＂ is the brilliant and important characteristic of Zhou Shou-Juan's original novels. Thus, this study plans to conduct micro-exploration on ＂Death Writing＂ by three dimensions: 1) the death of the war; 2) the death of one's convictions; 3) the death of restriction on traditional thinking. Expecting to restore the patterns on Zhou Shou-Juan's original novels out of ＂Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School＂ and ＂The Saturday School＂ by this study, and look for the reasonable position in modern Chinese literary history.
