Zhou Shou-Juan had been known for literary circles in the early Republic of China, who had been called "master of melancholy romance novels." Part of writings reveal characteristic of melancholy romance, which touched reader's heart in the early Republic of China. However, melancholy romance novels made him famous and wealthy, but had been criticized by the "New literature." On the other hand, the research of modern Chinese literature, focused on Zhou Shou-Juan's translated novels and the issue about popular literature publication, often ignore the spirit and worth on literature of his original novels, caused he couldn't get fair comment in literary history. Therefore, this study tries focusing on Zhou Shou-Juan's original novels, expect to analyze the aspect of his literary creation by deep interpretation. Preliminary exploration finds that "Death Writing" is the brilliant and important characteristic of Zhou Shou-Juan's original novels. Thus, this study plans to conduct micro-exploration on "Death Writing" by three dimensions: 1) the death of the war; 2) the death of one's convictions; 3) the death of restriction on traditional thinking. Expecting to restore the patterns on Zhou Shou-Juan's original novels out of "Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School" and "The Saturday School" by this study, and look for the reasonable position in modern Chinese literary history. |
