Huang Jun-Qing is the son of Huang Hai-Dai and the elder brother of Huang Jun-Xiong. From Feng Yuan to Gau Xiong, he performed a series of Jiang Guang Xi, such as the "Strange Old Man" after the Wu Zhou Yuan Second troupe was established in 1946. Huang was reputed to be the greatest "North to South two ways general" or "Inner stage dominator" within forty years until 1987. In addition to inner stage swordsmen plays, and Jiang Guang Xi, he also recorded 103 puppet show albums in 1960. Then, he played 139 TV puppet shows of "The Sword Prince", "The Loyal Intellectual" and "Shao Lin Hero" between 1970-1972. Furthermore, he produced 10 video programs of puppet shows of "The Winner: Black Glasses" in 1991. Huang is a versatile puppet show player; however, people know his father and his younger brother more. That’s why there is not any academic research about him. This paper is trying to analyze the inner stage career and the performing art of Huang by field trips in terms of interviewing performers, theater owners, puppet sculptors and puppet fans. Besides, we also investigate plenty of references to assure Huang’s contribution to Taiwan’s puppet shows. |
