In 2006, a total of 20,400 tuberculosis (TB) cases were notified and 15,378 cases confirmed (67.38 per 100,000 population); in 2005, there were 22,663 notified cases and 16,472 confirmed (72.47 per 100000 population), representing a 6.6% and 7.6% decline from the 2005 TB cases number and incidence. Gender distribution 15,378 TB cases in 2006, 10,604 cases were male (69.0%), 4,774 cases were female (31.0%); the sex ratio was 2.2. The presentation of TB cases by sex continued to reveal a larger number of cases among males (91.59 per 1 00,000) than females (42.45 per 1 00,000). The incidence rate in males was approximately 2.2 times than the rate of TB in females. |
