Syndromic Severe Illness Surveillance System was first run as a pilot research project from July 2000 to December 2001. In 2002, it was put under to the control of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In August of the same year, hospitals at or above regional level were incorporated into the surveillance system while local hospitals may opt to report cases voluntarily. Thus far, a total of 201 hospitals at or above local level have applied for accounts and have been included in the surveillance network. |
