Hu Yaobang , born in Liuyang County, Hunan Province, China, was one of the major second-generation leaders of the CCP(Chinese Communist Party). He had been the Chairman and the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CCP respectively.
In March of 1977, after the Cultural Revolution, Hu Yangbang made a comeback and took up his post as standing Vice President of the Central Party School of CCP. When Deng Xiaoping recovered his position, he chose Hu Yaobang as his comrade to drive the debate about whether “Practice is the sole criterion of testing truth”, and defeated the “Two Whatevers”. In the third plenary session of the 11thCentral Committee of the CCP, Deng Xiaoping held the real power. Owing to his contribution of helping Deng, Hu Yaobang, within less than two years from June of 1981 to September of 1982, had successively held the posts of a member of the Political Bureau of the CCP Central Committee, a member of the CCP Political Bureau's Standing Committee, the General Secretary of the Secretariat of the CCP Central Committee, the Chairman of the CCP Central Committee, the General Secretary of the CCP Central Committee, and became the second-generation leader of the CCP. He was a rarely enlightened leader of the CCP and of the reformist group.
Hu Yaobang's free and open attitude towards the intellectuals caused the dissatisfaction of Deng Xiaoping. Their political ideas gradually diverged and conflicted. Along with the attack of Chen Yun, Hu Qiaomu and Deng Liqun of the conservative group, it was hard for Hu Yaobang to hold the real power. Eventually, on account of his incompatible political ideas with Deng Xiaoping, Hu Yaobang was forced to resign and step down. |
