Historical Development of Chinese Characters and Its Importance in Character Teaching

中國文字歷史悠久。要瞭解漢字，必須要先掌握漢字的原形、流變和字用。其中，明白文字流變的軌跡，是正確分析文字的客觀標準。本文逐字舉例說明文字流變判斷楷書筆畫、異體、正確筆順來由的重要性。文字演變無疑是今天科學整理文字的一個大方向。

Chinese characters have their long history of development. In order to understand Chinese characters, one must have knowledge of their original forms, developments and usages in different historical stages. One's ability to trace the developments of the characters guarantees an objective analysis of the characters. In this article, by using concrete examples of selective characters, the author aims to illustrate how understanding the development of Chinese characters helps students grasp each character's strokes, variant forms, and stroke order in kaishu (楷書 standard handwriting style) writing. The study of character development is undoubtedly a scientific method we should follow in re-evaluating Chinese characters.
