The purpose of this study was to understand the supportive system of primary caregivers of children with cancer. One hundred and twenty-one families of children with cancer were recruited by random sampling from the enrolled list of Childhood Cancer Fundation of Republic of China. Structured interview with the primary caregiver were applied to collect data. Deseriptive statistics were use to analyze data. Results indicated that (1) Most children’s cancer was diagnosed as Luckemia (70.3%), age between 4 and 9 years old (47.1%), lived in northern Taiwan and their consulted hospitals were located in northern area. The major caregivers were mothers (88.4%), age between 31 and 40 years old (71.1%), and their educational level was above elementary school. Most fathers worked in private enterprises (40.5%). Most mothers were housekeepers (54.5%). The average number of children in each family was below 2 (57%). (2)The first three leading supporting systems were found to be: nurses, doctor, and spouses of caregivers. |
