Shoulder pain is highly prevalent within the general population, second only to lower back pain. There are many factors result in shoulder discomfort. Among the factors, shoulder dislocation and subacromial impingement syndrome are very common causes of shoulder pain. Clinically, both of them are treated conservatively, only few severe conditions have to deal with operative treatment. In this case, we used distal acupuncture point therapy and reduction procedure first to treat a 60 year-old patient who had right shoulder subluxation without fracture. After four times of the treatment, the patient's shoulder ROM improved obviously, and the sensation of shoulder dis- comfort was also relieved. In addition, there was no recurrent dislocation after four times treatment. In the next four times therapy courses, we used local acupuncture point therapy to manage the remnant of discomfort sensation attributed to subacromial impingement syndrome. After the therapy courses, the patient's shoulder ROM returned to normal, and the painful sensation also disappeared. Therefore, using acupuncture point therapy and reduction procedure can get good effectiveness without taking medicine. This therapy to struck patients who usually suffer from shoulder subluxation is a way worth to be taken into consideration in clinical Physicians. |
