The Review for Sports Event Management of the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung

2009世界運動會的賽事管理，千頭萬緒，賽會期間有來自103國，5,983名參賽人員，參與26項正式比賽及5項邀請賽，超過28萬人次的觀眾觀賞精彩賽事。由運動競技部負責賽事管理，從籌備競賽事宜，場館新建整修、器材採購與整備開始；包含賽程、計時計分、頒獎、國際聯絡、藥檢與運動傷害防護等工作。成立31 項賽事營運中心是成功的關鍵因素之一，設置賽場經理（VM）與賽事經理（EM），執行各項賽事的運作，運用所有可用資源（包含贊助），充分發揮團隊功能，讓各項賽事順利圓滿完成，功不可沒。並獲得IWGA會長Ron Froehlich 以「Best Ever （歷年來最好）」來形容高雄世運的成功，無異是最大的鼓勵與肯定。

It was extremely complicated to manage the sport events of the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung. During the games, there were 5,983 participants who came from 103 countries taking part in 26 official sports and 5 invitational sports to fight for 1,485 metals. Meanwhile, it was over than 280,000 person-time spectators enjoying the sight of the amazing events. The sports department was responsible for events management that started with preparing competition-related things, venues building or rebuilding, equipment purchasing and arrangement such as games, timekeeping, scoring, awarding prizes, international communication, doping control tests, and sports injury and prevention. Department of Sports, Kaohsiung City and 34 middle and elementary schools principals took on venue managers (VM) and event managers (EM) respectively for each game. It was one of the key factors to success of combining national sports associations with government authorities in order to establish 31 event operating centers. During the Games, they brought a stable affect on the events by both enough cooperation and using any available resources (including sponsorship); therefore, the centers played a great role to make them smooth going. According authors' witnessed and past experiences, the Games was quite success. International World Games Association President Ron Froehlich believed that 2009 world games met with success by speaking ”Best Ever” out; and it was without doubt the greatest encouragement and commendation.
