According to statistics published by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, cardiac diseases is the second leading cause of death nationwide. The article described a nursing experience of a patient who received coronary artery bypass graft surgery, and the nursing period was from Apr. 21st to May 1st, 2014. By collecting data through physical assessment, interviews, and medical records and using Gordon’s functional health patterns as an assessment framework, the patient was confirmed to have decreased cardiac output, acute pain, highrisk for infection, and acute confusion. The nursing interventions included listening, teaching relaxation skills, providing proper wound support, and adjusting analgesics, implementing aseptic dressing technique, providing adequate calories, and minimizing voice and brightness to enhance sleep quality, and close monitoring of vital signs, skin color, temperature, and urine output during the process. The patient was transferred out of ICU once stabilized. We wish that this nursing experience could serve as a reference for other clinical nurses when facing similar cases. |
