Manual hyperinflation is a medical practice intended to restore pulmonary vesicles by applying time constants and the principle of inspiration terms. In practice the medical professional first links the resuscitation bag to the patient's intubation or tracheostomy, then squeezes the resuscitation bag, using both hands, in a slow motion to provide a slow inspiration speed, accompanied by mid-term intermissions, after which the resuscitation bag is suddenly released. The rationale of this practice is to allow sufficient time for the narrow breath path and the alveoli of low compliance aptitude in the pulmonary area to inflate in a balanced manner, so that the pulmonary alveoli may recruit again, so that eventually the air being taken in with the inspiration gains better distribution in the entire lung. Manual hyperinflation helps alveolar recruitment, which results in secretion clearance, ventilation improvement, lung collapse prevention, lung collapse re-inflation, dynamic compliance improvement, artery oxygenation improvement and work of breathing reduction according to certain clinical reports from foreign sources. This article introduces the manual hyperinflation technique. |
