The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) praised itself on the united front works as one of the “three magic weapons” for the success of its revolution. The article focuses on the relevant political roles and activities of Peng Zhen, who was one of the main members of the first generation of the central leadership group of the CCP. Peng Zhen deeply participated at the CCP’s united front works during various periods. The article uses it as an axis to briefly examine the history, the theoretical arguments and practices of united front works of the CCP throughout history - from the founding of the People’s Republic of China, to the pre-Cultural Revolution period, and the initial stage of the “Reform and Opening-Up period.” The article aims at exploring and rebuilding Peng Zhen’s important roles in the history of the CCP’s united front works, as the official biography of Peng Zhen does not deal with this issue, and there is also no study that focuses on it in the Western academic circles. The article also provides an historical perspective to observe the trajectory of changes in the connotation, scope of objects, and political consequences of the CCP’s united front works. |
